Does the Bible accurately predict future events?
Key Scripture: “Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.” (Isaiah 42:9)
Fact:
The Bible is 100% accurate when predicting future events.
The Bible has a 100% accurate record concerning the prediction of future events. God inspired the prophets by His Spirit to accurately proclaim future events.
God’s Word has stood the test of time. There are over 300 prophecies about the First Coming of the Messiah (Jesus Christ), and they were all fulfilled.
Here is a short list of Biblical events that were predicted and fulfilled:
- A Savior would be sent to redeem mankind (Genesis 3:15). The Seed of the Woman (Jesus Christ) would bruise the head of the Devil, and the Devil would bruise Jesus’ heel. Right after the temptation in the Garden and the fall of Adam and Eve God gave us a prediction how God would restore and forgive mankind. Jesus went to the cross and died for our sins. Jesus’ heel was bruised, and the Devil’s head was bruised. The bruising of the Devil’s head was a mortal wound. The Devil legally lost his grip on all who have trusted in Jesus as their Savior.
- A Savior suffering on the cross (Psalm 22). This Psalm was written over 1000 years before Jesus was crucified on the cross revealing much of the suffering Jesus went through. Consider the following: My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me? (Psalm 22:1 / Matthew 27:46) . . . they pierced My hands and My feet (Psalm 22:16 / John 20:25-27). In Psalm 22:18 it says, they divide my garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots. Jesus’ garments were divided, and they also cast lots (Matthew 27:35).
- A Savior that would bear our iniquities (Isaiah 53) This chapter in Isaiah was written 700 years before Jesus came into this world to redeem mankind. Here is some of what is written. He has born our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. . . He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. . . And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all (He took our sins upon Himself) He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. . . For He was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgressions of My people He was stricken. . . By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities. . . And He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. How clear this prophecy is concerning the life and death of Jesus!
- A Savior that would be born in Bethlehem
(Micah 5:2) The Messiah (Jesus) would be born in Bethlehem. But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.
- A Savior and King that would humbly ride a donkey (Zechariah 9:9) The Messiah (Jesus) is a humble King riding a donkey. . . . Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. This was fulfilled by Jesus in Matthew 21:5.
- A Savior beaten and humiliated (Isaiah 50:6) Describes the beating and humiliation that Jesus endured. I gave My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.
I could continue, but I hope you get the picture. The Bible accurately predicted the future events of Jesus. There are many other events that the Bible has accurately predicted and came to pass like Israel once again becoming a nation which happened in 1948. God revealed to the prophet Ezekiel in chapters 36 and 37 that He would once again gather all Israel back to their homeland.
We can have great hope since all the past predictions have come true that all those concerning the Second Coming of Jesus will come true. Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus.
