Is There a Biblical Cure for Anxiety?
Fact: We should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead!
Key Scripture: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
Key Scripture: “Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead.” (2 Corinthians 1:9)
Anxiety can lead you to despair, a feeling of hopelessness. You have a problem, and you just can’t figure it out. You feel like there is nothing you can do to solve your problem.
Is there a Biblical cure for this anxiety and despair?
Yes, come to Jesus and trust not in yourself, but in the God who raises the dead!
Maybe you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, and if you don’t, then come to Him. You can’t rid yourself of all your problems, but Jesus will go through them with you. He will give you wisdom, guidance, and even bring peace into your heart in the middle of your storm.
Sometimes He stills the storm as you seek Him and pray for relief, but at other times He allows the storm to last for a prolonged period of time, but He is in it with you.
If you haven’t received Jesus as your Savior, then the guilt of sin is a heavy burden to deal with. It leads to despair and misery, but even worse it leads to eternal separation from God. Come to Jesus and have your sins forgiven.
Jesus says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
Simply ask Jesus to come into your life and forgive you of your sins and be Lord of your life. He will truly give you rest!
SO YOU'RE A CHRISTIAN
Well, you say, “I am a Christian and struggle with anxiety and often this leads me to despair.”
I am certain that all Christians at times experience anxiety, but I am also certain that there is a reason. Is it because we are so entangled with the cares of this life? This can happen to all of us at times.
Yet, at other times there are problems that come our way that are beyond our control. There often seems to be no solution.
Regardless of the reason for our anxiety we should learn the lesson of the Apostle Paul. Paul wrote the majority of the New Testament, yet he was familiar with anxiety and despair. Paul at one time was in a situation where he despaired of life. Let me put it bluntly, he was ready to give up and die.
This is what Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 2:1:8-9:
For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.
Paul and his companions were at the point that they despaired even of life! But what did Paul and his companions take away from this experience?
They learned not to trust in themselves but in God who raises the dead!
I don’t know what you are going through today. Maybe things are going great! Maybe you are despairing even of life.
Paul learned to trust in God. He penned these words in 2 Corinthians 4:7-8:
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair.
Paul learned that the power comes from God, not of us.
TRUST IN GOD WHO RAISES THE DEAD!
