What was the purpose of His coming

What was the purpose of His coming?

Key Scripture: But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”  . . . “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:20-21, 23)

Fact: Jesus came to save His people from their sins.

While Joseph was sleeping an angel appeared to him in a dream and made a profound statement to him. The angel proceeded to tell Joseph that the child conceived in Mary was of the Holy Spirit.

The angel made even a more profound statement by telling Joseph, “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:23)

Two important statements were made by the angel. The child was conceived of the Holy Spirit, and the child’s name shall be called Immanuel meaning “God with us.”

The purpose of the coming of Jesus was to save His people from their sins, and the angel declared to Joseph by what power and authority this child Jesus would have to save His people. Jesus is Immanuel, God with us!

To save us from our sins would take a mighty act of God, not an attempt from finite man.

A finite man like me, or you could not shed our blood for the sins of mankind. It took the blood of God. Jesus was God in the flesh, and His blood was pure. No sin was found in Jesus. The scriptures tell us it is the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from our sins (1 John 1:7).

It was God that we have sinned against, yet we can have confidence and joy in knowing that it is God Himself that cleanses and forgives. God loved us so much that He gave His son, and whoever believes in Him will be saved.

HE CAME TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS!
